"No matter how small you may feel you make a big difference in this world."
Now in 2021 at 10 years old, I am excited by the support I have received over the years (including the help of my friends, family, and classmates) and am glad to report that I raise money for and provide over 800 care packages every year to over 4 organizations that support the homeless in my community.
I have always had a heart for helping others but when I was almost 5 I attended an event where someone from a local food bank discussed the great needs that exists in our community. This really impacted me and I wanted to help. I am a reader and I read everything.
So I began to read the signs of those who I would see on the side of the road. I watched as my parents sometimes offered money or food but I wanted to do more and was concerned about where they would live, sleep, or eat later on.
Long story short, one day I said again how bothered I was and how I wanted to help. I said I wanted to give them things so, my parents discussed care packages with me.
The next day I woke up with the idea to use some of my craft kits to make bracelets to sell and then use the proceeds to buy supplies (socks, soap, water, tote bags/back packs etc) for my packages. I have already met with people at the city to discuss partnership and to learn more about the needs. I looked them in the eye and told them my story all by myself.
I am happy to report I completed my first outreach in March 2018. I was able to provide 150 care packages to the Tacoma Rescue Mission's search and rescue team and 158 food packages (sandwiches made and packaged by my class at my elementary school).
